A New Chapter in Mexico

Bianca Ramos and her husband made a bold decision to leave the United States in 2024, choosing to move to Mexico. Both had earned six figures while living in the U.S., but they found that their high-income lifestyle came with a lot of stress and little time for family. After moving, they downsized their life, which has allowed them to focus more on what truly matters—spending quality time with their children and redefining success on their own terms.

Bianca and her husband are both Mexican-American, raised in a culture that values hard work and ambition. They were taught to put their heads down and strive for success, which led them to pursue careers that brought in significant income. The Struggle with the American Dream

In the U.S., Bianca worked in human resources, focusing on inclusion and diversity, while her husband was in sales. Before having children, their main goal was to climb the corporate ladder. They bought a four-bedroom house in Austin, drove luxury cars, and spent a considerable amount on a nanny for their two kids. The pressure to keep upgrading their lives—bigger houses, nicer cars, and more things—was constant. Every upgrade meant working harder and sacrificing time with their children.

The arrival of their son in 2021 and daughter in 2022 shifted Bianca’s priorities. She realized that time with her kids was more valuable than the material possessions she once thought defined success. This realization, combined with the stress of long work hours and back-to-back meetings, made her question the American dream.

Deciding to Move to Mexico

Around the same time, Bianca started reflecting more on her identity as a Mexican-American. She and her husband began considering a move to Mexico, not just for financial reasons, but to help their kids understand their cultural roots. They spent two years planning the move, cutting back on expenses, saving money, and handling the necessary documentation.

They sold most of their belongings, including both of their cars, and rented out their house in the U.S. In August 2024, they officially moved to Mexico. Telling their families about the decision was challenging, especially for her husband’s family, who had left Mexico to come to the U.S. They feared their loved ones would see the move as a failure.

Adjusting to Life in Mexico

Financially, they have made some sacrifices. Bianca's husband, who previously dabbled in day trading, now pursues it full-time, which offers more flexibility but less predictable income. Bianca resigned from her job but was offered a part-time remote role. She now balances her family life with content creation, aiming to build an online community focused on freedom and balance.

While their professional incomes are lower than before, they have found that life in Mexico is more affordable. Their monthly rent in Playa del Carmen is $1,300, which is less than their previous mortgage payment. They live in a two-bedroom condo, and their kids share a room. Although some branded items are more expensive, they’ve learned to live without excess and focus on what truly brings them joy.

Redefining Success

Bianca no longer measures success by corporate titles or material wealth. She has more time to be present with her children and feels a sense of freedom she hadn’t experienced before. In the U.S., work often defined her identity, but in Mexico, people prioritize living over working. She now finds fulfillment in creating her own path and pursuing her business dreams.

Walking away from the corporate world was difficult, but she feels it was the right choice. She’s betting on herself and redefining what the future looks like for her and her family. Her story is a testament to the power of making choices that align with personal values and happiness.
