A Golden Retriever’s Bold Move During a Bagel Break

A heartwarming and humorous moment captured on TikTok has taken the internet by storm, showcasing the playful nature of a golden retriever named Finn. The video, shared under the username @thefinnstagram, features Finn, a 2-year-old dog from Charlotte, North Carolina, who makes a bold attempt to join his owner during a quiet bagel break.

In the clip, the dog is seen approaching his human on the couch, placing his face right next to the bagel as if signaling that he wants a taste. The caption reads, “Trying to eat my bagel in peace but my golden retriever wants to make sure I know he’d be willing to share it.” It adds, “Finn said if you’re too hungover to finish that I can handle it.”

The owner, Bridget Foos, described Finn as the “silliest and sweetest dog ever” and highlighted his many quirks. According to her, Finn loves trips to local dog parks and is always eager for a treat. He also believes that all of her best friends are his girlfriends and gets extremely excited when he sees them.

Foos mentioned that like most golden retrievers, Finn is always hungry. She was eating a bagel one Sunday morning when he decided to hop on the couch, hoping for a bite. While this behavior usually happens when she has a bag of popcorn, his favorite snack, she had no idea the video would become so popular.

Although Finn didn’t get any of the bagel, he was rewarded with a milk bone. When the post reached over 1 million views, he even got a celebratory cheeseburger from McDonald's, which is his favorite treat reserved for special occasions.

“He’s my very best friend, and I’m so lucky to have him,” Foos said. “He is the happiest boy and everything I hoped for in my dog and so much more. I really hope he helped brighten someone else’s day as much as he always brightens mine.”

While sharing food with your pup can be fun, it’s important to remember that not everything humans eat is safe for dogs. Many common foods can be toxic and cause serious health issues or even death.

Some dangerous items include caffeine (from coffee, tea, soda), chocolate (especially dark and baking chocolate), and alcohol, which can lead to seizures, tremors, and organ failure. Fruits such as grapes, raisins, cherries, apples (seeds), and peaches (pits) are harmful due to toxins that can cause kidney failure or cyanide poisoning. Onions, garlic, and chives destroy red blood cells, leading to anemia. Xylitol, found in gums and mints, causes insulin spikes and can lead to liver failure.

Avocados, macadamia nuts, almonds, and mustard seeds can induce vomiting, tremors, or blockages. Mushrooms, raw meat and eggs, salty foods, rhubarb, green tomatoes, and raw potatoes are all risky. Unbaked yeast dough causes bloating and alcohol poisoning. Dairy products can cause digestive issues for canines, and human medications like ibuprofen or aspirin are potentially fatal.

It’s crucial to call your veterinarian immediately if you think your dog has ingested anything dangerous.

The video quickly went viral on social media, receiving over 2.3 million views and more than 430,000 likes on the platform. Fans of the clip left a variety of comments, including one from CKRapp: “No eye contact because he wants it to be 'your idea!'” Another user, HeyJenne, wrote: “My dog has started licking the air near my food, in case. I don’t really know, flavored air goes in his mouth.” And Ig: ami.n99 added, “My dog will intentionally sneeze on it bc [because] she knows we put it down after.”
