Vibe coding, a term that has recently gained traction in the tech world, is changing the way executives approach software development. This innovative method involves using artificial intelligence to write code through natural language instructions. It's no longer just for seasoned programmers; even non-technical professionals are now able to bring their ideas to life with ease.

Sebastian Siemiatkowski, the CEO of Klarna, has never been a programmer, but thanks to advancements in AI, he has started coding his own projects. This shift has allowed him to test his ideas independently before presenting them to his engineering and product teams. By doing so, he avoids potential misunderstandings that could arise when his vision doesn’t align with what the team produces.

Siemiatkowski co-founded Klarna in 2005, and over the past two decades, he has been experimenting with different ways to translate his ideas into prototypes. However, with the help of tools like Cursor, he can now create working models on his own, significantly speeding up the process.

Instead of waiting weeks for results, Siemiatkowski can now develop a prototype in about 20 minutes. This efficiency has made him quite enthusiastic about the technology. He admitted that his wife has become a bit frustrated with his newfound obsession, as he spends late nights coding after the kids go to bed.

While some developers have expressed concerns about the accuracy of AI-generated code, many acknowledge its benefits. A recent report by Fastly revealed that 95% of software engineers surveyed spend extra time reviewing AI-generated code. Although AI may struggle with complex tasks, it is often useful for routine work and smaller projects.

Klarna’s recent stock performance highlights the company's success. On the day of its debut on the New York Stock Exchange, the company’s stock surged by 15%. As of midday Monday, the stock was up 3.4%.

Siemiatkowski has also led Klarna to expand beyond its buy-now-pay-later roots, aiming to become more like a traditional bank. Recent moves include a debit card partnership with Visa and a push towards AI integration. In fact, the company used AI to create a digital clone of Siemiatkowski to announce its first quarter results earlier this year.

Other tech leaders, such as Google CEO Sundar Pichai, have also begun exploring vibe coding. Pichai, who has an engineering background, has experimented with tools like Cursor and Replit to build webpages. He shared his excitement about how accessible coding has become, stating that compared to the early days of programming, things have come a long way.

This trend shows that AI is not only transforming how we code but also empowering non-technical individuals to contribute meaningfully to the tech landscape. As more executives adopt these tools, the future of software development looks increasingly collaborative and efficient.
