Strong Advertising Growth and User Engagement Fuel Reddit’s Momentum

Reddit, commonly known as the "front page of the internet," is experiencing a surge in its advertising business, which has become a key driver of growth for the company. In the second quarter of 2025, advertising revenues jumped 84% year over year to $465 million. This impressive performance highlights the platform's growing appeal to advertisers across different business sizes, from large corporations to small-to-medium-sized enterprises.

The growth was fueled by both existing advertisers increasing their investments and a 50% rise in the number of active advertisers. This expansion indicates that Reddit is successfully attracting a diverse range of businesses looking to reach engaged audiences. Additionally, the platform is seeing strong user engagement, with rising daily and weekly active users, higher average revenue per user, and expanded advertiser tools such as Dynamic Product Ads (DPA), Reddit Pixel, and Custom Audience Platform (CAPI).

Expanding Search-Led Engagement Through Reddit Answers

One of the key initiatives driving this growth is Reddit Answers, a feature that enhances search-led engagement. In the second quarter of 2025, the number of weekly users of Reddit Answers increased from 1 million to 6 million. This significant growth is supported by improved impressions and rising pricing, which are driven by Reddit’s investments in performance and targeting in the middle and lower funnel stages of the customer journey. These efforts are expected to further boost ad revenues in the coming quarters.

The company is also focusing on automation and usability within its ad platform. By integrating tools like Smartly, which combines Reddit’s audience and performance data with AI-powered advertising capabilities, the platform is making it easier for advertisers to launch, scale, and optimize their campaigns. This innovation is helping to streamline the advertising process and improve campaign effectiveness.

Intense Competition in the Digital Advertising Market

Despite its success, Reddit faces stiff competition from major players in the digital advertising space, including Meta Platforms (META) and Snap (SNAP). Both companies are actively expanding their advertising offerings to capture a larger share of the rapidly growing digital ad market.

Meta Platforms is investing heavily in AI integration across its platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads. This strategy aims to increase user engagement and drive ad revenues. In the second quarter of 2025, Meta reported a 21.5% year-over-year increase in advertising revenue, reaching $46.56 billion, which accounted for 98% of its total revenues. The company’s overall revenues grew by 22% year over year.

Snap, on the other hand, demonstrated significant improvements in its advertising platform through enhanced AI capabilities and optimization tools. For commerce advertisers, purchase volume increased by 39% year over year, while total purchase-related advertising revenues grew more than 25% compared to the previous year. The Sponsored Snaps format proved particularly effective, generating up to 22% higher conversion rates when integrated into broader advertising campaigns and delivering an 18% improvement in unique converters across app installations and in-app purchases.

Reddit’s Share Price Performance and Valuation
