Carnival Cruise Line Grants Lifetime Diamond Status Before Loyalty Overhaul

Carnival Cruise Line Introduces Enhanced Loyalty Program for Top-Tier Members
Carnival Cruise Line has introduced significant changes to its loyalty program, offering enhanced benefits for top-tier members as part of a broader transformation. The new program, which is set to launch in June, introduces an airline-style model with redeemable points, aiming to provide greater value and flexibility for frequent cruisers.
The updates come just four months after the company announced the end of lifetime status in the previous loyalty program, the VIFP Club. In response to guest feedback, Carnival has made several key adjustments to ensure that loyal customers continue to receive recognition and rewards.
Lifetime Status for Diamond Members
One of the most notable changes is the introduction of lifetime Diamond status for guests who achieve the Diamond level in the current VIFP Club by May 31, 2026. Previously, these members would have seen their status extended through 2032. This change ensures that high-achieving members can enjoy long-term benefits under the new Carnival Rewards program.
Benefits for Platinum Members
Platinum members who reach their status in the VIFP Club by May 31, 2026, will also see improvements. Their status will be extended through May 31, 2028, as previously announced. Additionally, they will receive a boost of 10,000 Carnival Rewards status qualifying Stars when the new program launches on June 1, 2026. This boost will give them a biennial 20% head start on earning Platinum or Diamond status. They will also be guaranteed a minimum of Gold status in all future cycles.
Special Considerations for Minors
Although U.S. privacy laws prevent minors from enrolling in rewards programs, Carnival has ensured that children will still benefit from the status of the adult who booked their sailing. When minors turn 18, those who achieved Diamond or Platinum status through an adult by May 31, 2026, will be invited to opt into the Carnival Rewards program with that status and the same privileges as other Diamond and Platinum members.
Expansion of Rewards Opportunities
Carnival is also exploring options for guests in Canada and Australia to earn points through partnerships, such as the Carnival® World Mastercard® available to U.S. residents. This card allows members to earn rewards points that can be used for various purchases related to cruising.
New Currency and Earning Opportunities
Inspired by successful loyalty programs in the airline and hotel industries, Carnival is the first cruise line to introduce a similar system. The new program moves away from lifetime qualification for all but the top Diamond tier and includes updated benefits such as free Wi-Fi, laundry service, priority boarding, and dining perks.
Members will earn 3 points for every dollar spent on eligible Carnival purchases, including cruise fares, onboard drinks, specialty dining, spa treatments, and shore excursions. Frequent casino players will also receive rewards, earning 1 point for every casino point remaining at the end of their cruise.
Additionally, guests can earn rewards points through the Carnival World Mastercard. The new currency will replace the FunPoints currently earned on the card, and existing cardholders will see their balances transitioned to the new program when it launches.
These enhancements reflect Carnival's commitment to improving the experience for its most loyal customers and ensuring that the new loyalty program offers meaningful value and flexibility.
