Major Class-Action Settlements Offer Potential Financial Gains for Eligible Consumers

Several Americans may be in for a significant financial windfall by participating in class-action lawsuit settlements that are set to conclude by the end of the year. These lawsuits target major corporations, including Panera Bread, Poppi, and Whole Foods. If you meet specific criteria, you could be eligible to receive thousands of dollars from these legal cases, which center around issues such as data breaches, deceptive marketing, and misleading packaging.

Here’s what you need to know if you’re considering claiming your share before the upcoming deadlines.

Panera Bread: Data Breach Settlement

Panera Bread, a nationwide bakery-cafe chain, has agreed to a $2.5 million class action lawsuit settlement after customers alleged it failed to protect their data during a 2024 breach. The breach reportedly exposed sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive up to $500 for out-of-pocket expenses like credit monitoring, credit report fees, and communication costs. Individuals who suffered exceptional losses—such as fraudulent charges, identity theft damages, or lost time—may be eligible for up to $6,500 in reimbursement. California residents may also receive an additional $100 statutory payment.

To claim these benefits, class members must submit a claim by November 11, 2025. The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for January 29, 2026.

Poppi: Deceptive Marketing Settlement

Poppi, a popular sparkling prebiotic drink, has agreed to pay $8.9 million over allegations that it falsely advertised its soda products as "gut healthy." Despite the settlement, the company did not admit any wrongdoing.

The lawsuit claimed that Poppi’s claims lacked scientific evidence. While the product includes inulin, a fiber found in fruits and vegetables, the lawsuit alleged that the amount added was insufficient to impact gut health positively.

Class members who purchased any flavor or package size of Poppi beverages between January 23, 2020, and July 18, 2025, are eligible for cash payments based on their purchase quantity. Those with proof of purchase can receive up to $0.75 per can, $3 per four-pack, $6 per eight-pack, and $9 per 12- or 15-pack. Households without proof of purchase may receive up to $16.

Claims must be submitted by September 26, 2025, and the final approval hearing is set for November 20, 2025.

Whole Foods: Misleading Packaging Settlement

Whole Foods faced a class-action lawsuit over its 365 Organic Hot Cocoa brand, which allegedly used misleading packaging with "non-functional slack-fill" or excess space. Although the company did not admit wrongdoing, it agreed to pay $650,000 to settle the case.

The lawsuit claimed that the oversized containers created the illusion of more cocoa powder than actually present. Eligible consumers include those who purchased the hot cocoa mix from a Whole Foods Market in California between November 3, 2017, and March 13, 2025.

Class members can expect a proportional share of the net settlement fund, with an estimated payout of $2.90 per person. To qualify, eligible customers must submit a claim form by October 14, 2025.
