Are ARC Raiders' Bonus Expedition Points Worth the Cost?

Understanding the Expedition Bonuses in ARC Raiders
Embark has finally provided specific details about the bonuses players will receive from sending their Raider on an Expedition in ARC Raiders. While this information is helpful, it also comes with some unwelcome surprises. In a recent blog post shared on the official ARC Raiders X account, the developer announced that the game's first Expedition would be delayed by a few days. This delay was already disappointing for many players, especially those eager to start fresh with the buffs and bonuses that come with participating in the Expedition.
However, the real shock came when players learned just how much their stash needed to be worth to get the maximum number of bonus skill points for their next character. The requirement of 5,000,000 Coins felt overwhelming, making some question whether the effort was even worth it.
Permanent and Temporary Bonuses from the Expedition
Upon completing the first Expedition in ARC Raiders, players will unlock several permanent items and receive temporary buffs. These include:
- Permanent Unlocks:
- Patchwork Raider outfit
- Scrappy Janitor Cap
- Expeditions Indicator icon
- Skill points (depending on Stash value)
-
+12 Stash space
-
Temporary Buffs:
- 10% repair buff
- 5% XP boost
- 6% more materials from Scrappy
The permanent unlocks are applied to each player's account indefinitely, while the temporary buffs expire unless players go on another Expedition. If they do, the buffs can stack for up to three Expeditions before capping out.
While these bonuses are appealing, especially for long-term players, the cost associated with the maximum number of skill points is a major concern.
What It Takes to Max Out Bonus Skill Points
According to the blog post, each bonus skill point requires 1,000,000 Coins. Players can use either their stash or wallet to meet this requirement. However, achieving 5,000,000 Coins is no small task, especially considering the limited stash space and the time required to gather enough resources.
Some of the most valuable items in ARC Raiders include:
- Snap Hook — 14,000
- Queen Reactor — 13,000
- Matriarch Reactor — 13,000
- Lance's Mixtape (5th Edition) — 10,000
- Kinetic Converter — 7,000
- Anvil Splitter — 7,000
- Breathtaking Snow Globe — 7,000
- Horizontal Grip — 7,000
- Silencer III — 7,000
Even if players focused solely on the most valuable item, the Snap Hook, they would need 357 of them to reach the 5,000,000 Coin threshold. For rarer items like the Breathtaking Snow Globe, players would need 714 of them to meet the requirement. These numbers make the cost of the bonus skill points seem prohibitively high.
Are the Bonus Skill Points Worth It?
At this point, many players are questioning whether the bonus skill points are worth the effort. While the 5% XP boost might help offset the lack of skill points, it doesn't fully compensate for the significant investment required. For now, it seems that the bonus skill points may not be worth it, especially given the current limitations on stash space and the relatively low value of the most valuable items.
That said, there's hope that Embark may adjust the requirements in the future. For now, players will have to weigh the cost against the potential benefits and decide whether the Expedition is worth the effort.
