Top 10 Game Awards 2025 Predictions

The Game Awards: A Major Stage for Gaming Announcements

Over the last few years, The Game Awards have become the gaming industry's biggest stage by quite a wide margin. While the reason for the occasion is to announce the winners of this year's TGA award categories, the event is typically dominated by new game trailers and announcements. While a few games decide to announce their appearance at The Game Awards early – like Exodus' upcoming trailer, for instance – the biggest reveals are usually kept a secret. In all likelihood, there's an extremely slim chance that all 10 predictions below will come true, but each one could make waves.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Will Be Revealed

The Final Fantasy 7 remake project has been a major undertaking for the better part of a decade, and it's starting to feel like we're approaching the time that its third installment is finally unveiled. Early next year, in February, we'll hit the two-year anniversary of FF7 Rebirth's debut. Remake Part 3 is well into development, and there has been a lot of indication that its full time in the oven won't be as long as that of Rebirth. Final Fantasy is one of the most famous franchises in gaming, and a TGA announcement would be fitting.

The Third Star Wars Jedi Game Is Announced

Speaking of huge franchises, Respawn Entertainment has been very quiet about the upcoming sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. In classic Star Wars fashion, the story of Cal Kestis is expected to span a total of three games, and with Survivor turning three years old in April 2026, it's about time we got a teaser for its successor. The Jedi trilogy has been Respawn's primary single-player project alongside its live-service venture, Apex Legends, and the critically acclaimed series is a major tent pole for publisher Electronic Arts. Cal's journey is one of the few bright spots in the Star Wars franchise at the moment, and a great teaser could really stand out at The Game Awards.

Kojima Makes An Appearance & Debuts A New OD Trailer

If you're not prepared to see visionary director Hideo Kojima step on the stage at The Game Awards 2025, you haven't watch enough Geoff Keighley-hosted events. Kojima and Keighley are quite close, and with OD still very much a mystery, The Game Awards is the perfect opportunity to hear more from the creator himself. OD is Kojima Productions' collaboration with Xbox, but perhaps more interestingly, it's also a collaboration between Kojima and Jordan Peele, director of Get Out, Us, and Nope. The horror game is avant-garde, according to Kojima, and stars big names like Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier.

Rumored God Of War Metroidvania Is Finally Confirmed

Kratos, the eponymous deity to one of PlayStation's crown jewels, has been relatively quiet since the 2022 release of God of War Ragnarök. There are supposedly two God of War games in development, the expected mainline entry and a metroidvania spin-off. Rumors have been circulating about a reveal for a while, but nothing has manifested yet; The Game Awards could be a perfect opportunity. The metroidvania is believed to star Deimos, Kratos' brother, who had a significant role in the PSP title God of War: Ghost of Sparta, but without any official confirmation, exact details remain practically nonexistent.

Remedy Will Unveil Its Next Release, Control 2 Or The Max Payne Remake

Remedy Entertainment saw an unfortunate downturn this year with the poor reception of FBC: Firebreak, but it's starting to seem like the beloved studio is gearing up for its next major release. There are two likely candidates: Control 2 and a remake of the first two Max Payne games. The latter is being published by Rockstar Games (the Max Payne property holder), which doesn't typically participate in showcases like The Game Awards. Why would you, when both GTA 6 trailers racked up more than 100 million views in a matter of hours? This makes Control 2 more likely to make an appearance.

Gears Of War: E-Day Will Set A Release Date

Gears of War: E-Day was revealed at Xbox's annual summer showcase in June 2024, but has fallen off the map since. Despite Gears 5's cliffhanger ending, the series is winding back the clock and getting Marcus and Dom back together for a prequel about the worst day in Seran history: Emergence Day. Xbox seems to be floundering a little bit, with its future as a console manufacturer still not quite clear. It has practically done away with Xbox console exclusives, recently increased Game Pass prices, and is banking heavily on Xbox Play Anywhere. But through it all, Gears remains a major draw, and E-Day's momentum has sadly slowed to a halt since it was first announced a year and a half ago.

The Duskbloods Finally Gets A Second Trailer

FromSoftware just released Elden Ring Nightreign's DLC, The Forsaken Hollow, but its next full release is expected to be the biggest surprise from Nintendo's original Switch 2 Direct, The Duskbloods. Once again shirking FromSoftware's RPG bona fides, The Duskbloods is set to be a PvPvE multiplayer game with extraction elements. The genre revelation proved to be even more mystifying than the original reveal that FromSoftware was making a Switch 2 exclusive. We have heard barely a peep about the game since April, though, and with it set to release in 2026, The Game Awards could be the perfect place to debut some gameplay.

Ubisoft Reveals A Major New Title, The Division 3 Or The Splinter Cell Remake

Ubisoft always has something on the horizon; the only question is what the next release is. Back in 2021, a remake of the original Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell was announced. It has yet to receive a single trailer – or any sort of tangible information, really. The Game Awards could be the biggest possible comeback party for Sam Fisher, and it would certainly surprise a lot of longtime fans who have given up hope. Ubisoft has another long-gestating game coming, though, and it's arguably a bigger draw at this point. The Division 3 was confirmed to be in the works in 2023, but has also yet to be shown off. The series' first two titles were big hits, and with the continued growth in popularity for the looter shooter and extraction genres, The Divsion 3 could really make waves when it finally arrives.

Leon S. Kennedy Is Teased To Appear In Resident Evil Requiem

Let's be real: if Leon Kennedy is in Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom has to tease his appearance at some point, right? He's Resident Evil's biggest character, and that says a lot for a legendary franchise with so many iconic figures. RE9 is going to be a hit regardless, but simply confirming that Leon will show up at all in the game would ensure the hype goes up an octave. Resident Evil Requiem was revealed at Summer Game Fest earlier this year (and introducing it almost made Keighley cry tears of joy), so confirmation of Leon's involvement would be an incredible one-two punch. It's set to release in February, so there's really no better opportunity to get another big trailer in.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Takes Home GOTY

Alright, fine, we'll talk about the awards. The biggest award of the night is, of course, the coveted Game of the Year honors. The category is positively stacked this year – and if you hear a faint voice yelling "Death Stranding 2 robbed!" that was probably me – but all signs point to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 taking home the blue ribbon. There has been no other game this year so widely beloved, nor a contender that has so thoroughly dominated gaming discourse. The people love E33, the critics love E33, and it feels almost like an inevitability that it will be crowned Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2025.
