Path of Exile 2's Full Version May Be Incomplete, Director Warns of Troubling Class Issues

Major Changes in the Upcoming "The Last of the Druids" Update
This coming Friday, the game Path of Exile 2 will receive its latest update, titled "The Last of the Druids." The full content of this update has already been revealed, and Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has provided a detailed list of changes. However, last night, several modifications were made to the list, some of which are quite significant.
Parrying Mechanics Receive a Major Overhaul
One of the most notable changes is related to the parrying mechanic, a feature that has not always been well-received by the PoE 2 community. GGG seems determined to encourage players to use it more often. In the new version, when a player parries an attack, they will hit all enemies directly in front of their character, not just one. Additionally, the main enemy that was parried will always take damage, regardless of distance. New passive abilities tied to this mechanic have also been added, though their exact details remain unknown.
Sprinting Adjustments
A minor but potentially impactful change involves sprinting. Starting from version 0.4, using sprinting will no longer prevent the fading of the strong stun effect on the character. This means players should experience fewer stuns while running, making movement more fluid and less disruptive during combat.
Support Skills and Unique Items
Several support skills have also seen changes. For example, the ability Greatwood II has been completely removed, and its weaker version has now become a Lineage-type gem. Another major change is the nerf to Ambrosia's skill, which no longer has the same overwhelming power as before.
The largest section of the update focuses on unique items, most of which have received buffs. However, one of the most controversial changes is the nerf to the crossbow The Last Lament. This weapon was commonly used with the Lich character class, and the combination has now been "killed" by GGG. Players will no longer encounter this build in version 0.4.
Other changes include the removal of two Omens, which makes crafting items slightly more challenging. Many quarterstaffs have been strengthened, while bows have been weakened. Additionally, numerous bug fixes have been implemented.
The Road to Version 1.0: A More Flexible Approach
Recently, PoE 2 director Jonathan Rogers spoke about the release of version 1.0, stating that it should be available in 2026. However, achieving this goal may prove difficult, as the game still lacks many essential elements. To address this, GGG is considering skipping some features.
In an interview with PCGamesN, Rogers mentioned that the most critical aspects for the full version are the campaign and balance. While players hope for all 12 character classes, Rogers suggested that this may not be a priority. He stated:
"We definitely want to have all the ascendancies for all the classes that are released. I would ideally want to have all of the classes out, but I sort of suspect at this point that it's likely we won't have all of them. I don't think it's as important to have all of the classes as having the full campaign and the endgame good and balanced, right? And all this other stuff. I think the game could survive with ten classes as opposed to 12, for example, or maybe 11 - I think [that would be] enough to be fair to say that it's a full game experience there."
Despite this, Rogers admitted that he can't imagine releasing the full version without swords, which are currently one of the most anticipated weapon types among players. However, the possibility remains that version 1.0 may still turn out to be incomplete.
Final Thoughts
As the Path of Exile 2 team continues to refine the game, players are left wondering what the future holds. With updates like "The Last of the Druids" bringing both improvements and adjustments, the game is evolving in unexpected ways. Whether the final version will meet expectations or fall short remains to be seen.
