Resident Evil Requiem: New Character Revealed

A retail listing for Resident Evil Requiem has sparked speculation about the return of a character that many didn’t expect, just ahead of The Game Awards. The upcoming sequel is less than three months away, and while Capcom has shared several gameplay sequences, there are still many unanswered questions surrounding the game.

One of the most intriguing rumors involves a potential second playable character beyond FBI agent Grace Ashcroft. Fans have long speculated that Leon S. Kennedy from Resident Evil 4 might make an appearance, despite Capcom’s previous comments downplaying the possibility. Many assumed this was just the company being evasive, but a recent store listing seems to hint at something entirely different.

If you're looking to avoid spoilers, now would be a good time to look away. A listing on the US retailer GameStop for the Deluxe Steelbook Edition of Resident Evil Requiem on PC, which is still available at the time of writing, references Rosemary Winters — the daughter of Ethan Winters, the protagonist of Resident Evil Village. According to the listing, the deluxe edition includes “a unique cosmetic look for Rose’s visor” and “three exclusive outfits for Rosemary Winters.” This strongly suggests that Rose will play a significant role in the sequel, potentially indicating that the Shadows of Rose DLC, where she is a playable character, may hold more narrative weight than previously thought.

Interestingly, if this information is accurate and not simply an error on GameStop's part, it raises some interesting questions about the game’s timeline. Resident Evil Requiem is set around 30 years after the destruction of Raccoon City, placing it roughly in the year 2028. That means the game takes place nine years before the Shadows of Rose DLC in 2037. In that DLC, Rosemary Winters is 16 years old, so during the events of Requiem, she would still be a young child. Unless the game features a younger version of Rose, it’s likely that part of Requiem will be set in the future, beyond what has been shown in the trailers.

The same GameStop listing also hints at deeper narrative connections to Resident Evil 7, reinforcing the Winters family’s ongoing presence in the series. The description reads: “The nightmare never truly ends; it just evolves. Resident Evil Requiem drags you back into the heart of survival horror, picking up threads left dangling in the shadows of Raccoon City and the Baker estate. But this isn’t a mission you’re prepared for. This is a descent.” The Baker estate is the setting of Resident Evil 7, which served as a soft reboot for the franchise.
