The Most Revolutionary Guitar Breakthrough in Years Is Not About Sound
Today in Gear: A Look at the Latest Innovations and Releases
Welcome to “Today in Gear,” your daily snapshot of the most important releases in style, watches, tech, motoring, fitness, home and the outdoors. Here’s a look at some of the most exciting products making waves this week.
Cream Guitars Davinci
This might be the biggest guitar innovation in years, and yet it has nothing to do with how the guitar sounds. That’s because the Davinci is the first-ever color-changing guitar, courtesy of a low-energy consumption non-light-emitting display comprised of 64 individual segments, which can be easily programmed into changing patterns via an accompanying app. However, even beyond that groundbreaking tech, this is still a solid instrument with Fishman pickups, a roasted maple Techwood body, a rosewood fretboard and much more.
- The guitar features a unique design that allows for customizable color displays.
- It combines advanced technology with traditional craftsmanship.
- Available for $2,500 at Cream Guitars.

Brompton x Shantell Martin P Line
The king of folding bikes teams back up with a fellow British legend, Shantell Martin, MBE, for a colorful makeover of the classic P Line. In the acclaimed artist’s vision, bold freehand lines festoon the frame, seat and fenders, complemented by pink and burgundy color pops adorning the bike’s frontal components. The P Line itself is a banger in its own right, thanks to light yet sturdy titanium and steel construction that keeps the weight under 22 pounds, Brompton’s 4-speed drivetrain (163% range) and the brand’s trademark foldability, which enables you to pack it down to a home-, train- and office-friendly 25.3″ x 23” x 10.6” when you’re not ripping around town.
- Designed in collaboration with renowned artist Shantell Martin.
- Features a unique aesthetic with bold colors and intricate designs.
- Priced at $3,650 at Brompton.

A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold
The Lange 1 is undoubtedly A. Lange & Söhne’s most recognizable icon, but for collectors who want a version of that watch with just a bit more versatility and functionality, there’s the Lange 1 Daymatic. The Daymatic swaps out the Lange 1’s manually wound movement for an automatic and trades in its power reserve indicator for a handy retrograde day-of-week display. This version of the Daymatic dresses up the self-winding calendar watch in Lange’s most prized proprietary alloy, Honeygold, along with a warm brown dial in 925 silver. Limited to 250 pieces, the watch’s price is only available upon request.
- Offers enhanced functionality with an automatic movement.
- Features a unique design with a retrograde day-of-week display.
- Limited edition available upon request.

Dehen 1920 Crissman Overshirt in Waxed Darkwood Camo
Dehen 1920’s signature “shacket” now comes in a stylized camo dry-waxed canvas. Dubbed Darkwood Camouflage, the 12-ounce waxed cotton is milled by Scotland’s Halley Stevensons, and blends olive green, tan and brown. The jacket has two chest pockets, two welted hand pockets and an interior patch pocket on the inner left-hand side. It uses keyhole buttons on the front, pockets and cuffs, with a single solid brass snap at the neck, and it has reinforcing elbow patches.

Smart #6 EHD
Remember Smart? The Mercedes-Benz-owned producer of tiny, premium city cars that nobody bought here in the States? Well, they’re back, and yes, they still exist. And they just revealed their biggest car ever, the #6 EHD. But not only that, it’s also the company’s first-ever normal sedan, and it’s supposedly gunning for the BMW 3 Series. However, before you rush to look into it, it’s not coming to the US. But it is powered by Geely’s latest NordThor 2.0 Hybrid plug-in system and can be had in all-electric form. Total output: around 429 horsepower and an all-electric driving range of up to 157 miles.
- Represents a significant step forward for the brand.
- Offers a powerful hybrid and all-electric option.
- Not available in the United States.

Old Forester Prohibition Era Still Proof
Old Forester is back with another release in its 117 Series, and it’s a spirit that pays tribute to the Prohibition Era. During that time, Old Forester was one of the few distilleries legally permitted to produce whiskey for medicinal purposes. Accordingly, Prohibition Era Still Proof is bottled at 130 proof as a nod to the 100-day distiller’s holiday a few years prior to the repeal of Prohibition. The announcement date coincided with Repeal Day — December 5 — the date marking the end of Prohibition in 1933.
- Honors the history of Old Forester during the Prohibition Era.
- Bottled at 130 proof as a tribute to a historical event.
- Priced at $65 at Old Forester.
